Definition of stub

What exactly is a stub? How does something qualify as a stub? For instance, I have several draft articles that I'd like to publish, but they are incomplete in my opinion. Would they be stubs?

For me, a 'stub' is a page that is in need of substantial 'fleshing out', rather than one that isn't yet 'complete' by some metric. i feel it's better to just go ahead and create a page that doesn't yet have all the information i'd like to include, because (a) even relatively minimal content might help some people, and (b) the existence of the page facilitates others contributing (even small amounts), which certainly won't be possible if the page doesn't yet exist.
