A Knowledge Base seems to be a nice concept, but in the current form it just doesn't make sense ... because it's almost completely inaccessible!
There's no mention of it on the Main Page, there's not mention of it in the sidebar, no category, there's no way to easily view all the Knowledge Base items, even. The only reason I'm even aware that it still exists is because I'm subscribed to the Gentoo Wiki RSS feed...
Something should really be done about it --Alec 20:49, 17 April 2012 (UTC)
- Agreed. I've added some Knowledge Base articles to the Knowledge Base category so you can access them from there. But that's really not optimal. /Ni1s 23:02, 17 April 2012 (UTC)
- What about adding the main page to the navigation, and on the main page either embed or link to the special page that shows all pages within a namespace? --SwifT 06:46, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
- What about having the Knowledge Base categoty page as the "main page"? (Added copy of this main page to example) /Ni1s 21:59, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
What about doing away with it? Knowledge bases and wikis are alternatives to one another, and we have a wiki already. ¦ Reisio 04:30, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
- They're not. Knowledge base entries try to stick with one problem at a time, whereas wiki articles describe one topic at a time. Users are generally inclined to update wikis concerning topics (like "How install Gentoo on a ... hardware") rather than issues (... hardware driver does not start properly), yet users with a problem tend to look for their problem rather than affiliated topics first. I think a general purpose wiki and a knowledge base structured one complement each other. --SwifT 08:24, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
- If you say so, but I don’t see what’s keeping these issue articles from being in ordinary wiki space. ¦ Reisio 18:31, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
