Does it really need the [DEFAULT] section in this FileBox? --Charles17 (talk) 04:45, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

That's the way /usr/share/portage/config/repos.conf comes, so yes, it is the default and therefore most-likely needed. --Maffblaster (talk) 22:12, 24 April 2017 (UTC)

Can we have an example configuration to get the main Gentoo repo via Git? Skaumo (talk) 18:34, 1 October 2017 (UTC) skaumo

=portage-2.2.19 has long time gone. Please simplify that sentence reagrding portage versions.--Charles17 (talk) 18:27, 3 February 2018 (UTC)

You didn't read the article very closely, Charles. There was a change in the format of what is now --webrsync at version 2.2.19. The statement needs to stay there for the benefit of long time users of the Gentoo packages. --Davidbryant (talk) 15:27, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

Merging #git with Portage with Git

I want to merge these two. Which should I keep? — glibg10b 18:56, 1 April 2024 (UTC)

I will keep Portage with Git. It doesn't really make sense for this page to exist anyway, since /etc/portage/repos.conf exists.
After removing #git, only #rsync will be left, but that section doesn't really contain any content ("The example below shows the default set up of the main Gentoo repository.").

Delete this article

The only useful sentence in this article is However, there is no need for having this file unless its content deviates from the file found at /usr/share/portage/config/repos.conf. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Vaukai (talkcontribs) 11:42, 26 May 2024‎

I added {{Delete}} a few days ago, but I removed it in Special:Diff/1300117 because of what Help:Deleting a page#When not to delete a page says:

Typically a page would be deleted only if the contents are entirely inappropriate and do not match the purposes of the wiki, such as vandalism or material with an inappropriate license.

This was after looking at the state of Category:Deletion candidate, which was very full at the time, with no one seeming to have an interest in going through those pages except P.Fox (Ris) .
I think I should do one of two things:
What do you think?

I've moved the part you quoted to that article, so now this article contains nothing new. Thus, I suggest the first option.
Waldo Lemmer 14:08, 26 May 2024 (UTC)
Done. The page now redirects to /etc/portage/repos.conf.
