Does it really need [*] cfg80211 wireless extensions compatibility --Charles17 (talk) 10:03, 1 March 2015 (UTC)

I believe it does, I see:

 * Bringing up interface wlan0
 *   Starting wpa_supplicant on wlan0 ...
Successfully initialized wpa_supplicant
nl80211: Driver does not support authentication/association or connect commands
wlan0: Failed to initialize driver interface
 *   start-stop-daemon: failed to start `/usr/sbin/wpa_supplicant'

on an a10-6800, kernel-3.18.5 to 3.18.7 running netifrc, openrc, gentoo scripts

I see, in journalctl:

wpa_supplicant(2730): nl80211: Driver does not support authentication/association or connect commands

on an fx28150 running systemd, gnome, networkmanager, and kernel 3.18.6 to 3.19.0

Renaming to Realtek RTL8812AU

As this article mainly concerns the Realtek RTL8812AU chipset, I'd like to propose moving it to Realtek RTL8812AU. From the actual title readers might expect information for any adapters of the IEEE_802.11ac Type. --Charles17 (talk) 07:00, 8 May 2015 (UTC)

I disagree with the name change.

A search of the Gentoo wiki for rtl8812au yields:

Thus looking for help with an rtl8812au is covered already.

This title was selected based on personal experience. Owning and wanting to take maximum advantage of an ac1200 router, I set out to find an ac1200 usb adapter that had a linux driver. That was not easy. Installing a driver that worked was even harder. Installing a driver for pcie connected adapters is easy, built in the kernel. The unbalance in verbiage results from: pcie is easy, bcm43256 doesn't work as far as I can see, rtl8812au is hard and fails occasionally with kernel upgrades.

Sorry, I already forgot about that RTL8812AU redirect which I created end of March for you. But I still think AC1200 is related to a type of IEEE_802.11ac, not to certain hardware drivers --Charles17 (talk) 17:01, 8 May 2015 (UTC)

I agree that AC1200 is related to a type of IEEE_802.11ac. Can I persuade you that the words "AC1200 Wireless Adapters" refer to a particular class of adapters not to a particular protocol?

Of course. That's the sections from AC1200_Wireless_Adapters#Finding_an_adapter until AC1200_Wireless_Adapters#Notes mainly? So what do you think of moving the content of AC1200_Wireless_Adapters#Realtek_RTL8812AU and its sub-sections to another page RTL8812AU or Realtek RTL8812AU and transcluding it back here? That way, the shorter article would fit better for readers interested only in how to make it work. --Charles17 (talk) 06:26, 9 May 2015 (UTC)
