What architecture (CHOST) do you suggest a core 2 duo run on. According to http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/ it should be x86_i686. Is it possible/advisible to use x86_64? Aries97 (talk) 04:56, 15 May 2013 (UTC)

The CHOST variable is set by the profile. The architecture with the most developers and users is x86_64. Astaecker (talk) 08:45, 19 July 2013 (UTC)

Core 2 and HyperThreading

The core 2 solo/duo/quad processors include hyperthreading ( "cat /proc/cpuinfo" - look for "ht" ) so shouldn't we use MAKEOPTS -j3, -j5, and -j8 for best performance? Aries97 (talk) 04:56, 15 May 2013 (UTC)

The "ht" flag is no real indicator for HyperThreading existence. Having a look at wikipedia, core 2 doesn't support HyperThreading. Astaecker (talk) 08:45, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
