idk i think the talk page should be the place for some of the discussion on the main page going on there....

starting to look at the updated syntax.

/usr/share/portage/config/repos.conf shows syntax

root #mirrorselect -ior >> /etc/portage/repos.conf

[DEFAULT] main-repo = gentoo

[gentoo] location = /usr/portage sync-type = rsync sync-uri = rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage

Should read: "The default configuration for Portage repositories originates from the Portage package itself, /usr/share/portage/config/repos.conf. However, the settings within /etc/portage/repos.conf FALLS BACK TO values set WITHIN /usr/share/portage/config/repos.conf." --Roger (talk) 16:34, 28 December 2015 (UTC) Added minor grammar corrections. I disagree. There is portage (a program) and there are repositories. "itself" makes no sense to me as the sentence is about "the Gentoo repository", about its configuration.--Charles17 (talk) 16:13, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

Question about the SYNC variable

Will mirrorselect still default to using the old make.conf SYNC variable which has been deprecated. Or has this been fixed with bug #486956? If so (fixed), that sentence should be removed.

mirrorselect has a behavior that changes the output when it detects that repos.conf is in the path and rsync is the type. I don't believe this is well documented. --Grknight (talk) 21:48, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
