I have followed the instructions in this page before with success, but now I get a message saying I should be using virtual environments. Following the instructions in the message allowed me to do what I wished - perhaps the contents of this page should be updated to reflect these recommendations? I am happy to do, but I wanted to make sure I am not standing on anyone's toes! --Paulj (talk) 09:33, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
- Edit the page as you feel fit, Paulj. If you need guidance, or a second pair of eyes, you can start a discussion here. In particular, I think your observations are correct, given the discussion https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-8783241.html?sid=06915d5b193604ea692cf420ded17814, which also links to this. In short, the changes stemmed from a 2021 PyCon discussion that resulted in https://peps.python.org/pep-0668/. I also use venv when required, but there are some Python-dependent packages that are not available on Gentoo, that I would prefer to have system-wide. I have seen some evidence of users having success with loading a virtual environment in the profile under something like ~/.local. --Marian ~~m>.<m~~ (talk) 20:37, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
