KMS for Radeon
This seems outdated. Arch linux wiki states: > Intel, Nouveau, ATI and AMDGPU drivers already enable KMS automatically for all chipsets, so you need not install it manually. I have not seen the option for setting it in my kernel configuration (6.1.7). Hence, I looked around and found the arch wiki...
Older versions
The OpenRC section mentions a warning about versions <=0.9.0:
- plymouth-0.9.0 and later versions do not work with openrc because of lack of login-seats. See bug #517572 for details. Simply mask all non-working versions:
The problem is that the only remaining version in portage as of Feb 2017 is 0.9.2 (cf. https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/commit/sys-boot/plymouth?id=dc5f5087a32dcdf2c05960849a7aaba46aa35674), so the warning should probably be amended. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Kilian (talk • contribs) 17:27, May 2, 2017
- Hi Kilian , please remember to sign your contributions to discussion pages. Please amend the warning. Thanks! --Maffblaster (talk) 17:19, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
initramfs generators
As mentioned genkernel does not support plymouth, so I switched to genkernel-next. There is no BTRFS="yes" option anymore in the config comments. Is this clone still maintained and more advanced than genkernel? -> https://github.com/Sabayon/genkernel-next/issues/51 Otherwise I would need to switch to dracut for having both, btrfs and plymouth in the initramfs. --Massimo B. - At this point this discussion is out of date. genkernel-next is unmaintained and it's benefits were (mostly) merged into genkernel proper. genkernel now does support BTRFS, but does not support Plymouth. Your best bet is likely to use dracut. --Maffblaster (talk) 22:15, 15 February 2022 (UTC)
Package sys-boot/plymouth-openrc-plugin is masked
The package sys-boot/plymouth-openrc-plugin is masked at the moment and marked for removal. Is it still needed for Plymouth to work on OpenRC? --Wra (talk) 14:25, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
- Are you asking for support on a wiki talk page? This is not the right place for support questions. You'd better ask in the forums.--Charles17 (talk) 15:04, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
genkernel-next removal
As noted in the guide the genkernel-next has been removed. I found the reasoning in the FAQ of the genkernel wiki. I suggest that we remove the genkernel-next section, and update the guide to use Dracut. Citizenkepler (talk) 01:31, 26 October 2020 (UTC)
- I agree, there's also a pull request going on in Genkerel's github that provides the same plymouth feature from genkernel-next, let's hope it gets committed to the main branch. --Niyumard (talk) 05:58, 15 November 2020 (UTC)
- As this has been fixed (thanks :)), closing discussion to keep count down (Help:Talk_pages#Closing_discussions). -- Ris (talk) 21:58, 29 March 2022 (UTC)
