Task How Why
LLVM snapshots Project:LLVM/Testing_new_LLVM_versions LLVM is fast-moving and has an interesting support policy for releases. It only supports one release at a time, and only for 5-6 point releases. It's in our interests to report bugs as soon as possible, ideally before a branch is even cut, to reduce problems.
GCC snapshots Project:Toolchain/sys-devel/gcc#Usage Project:Toolchain/sys-devel/gcc#Snapshots
GCC assertions Enable debug for sys-devel/gcc (in package.use, not globally). This enables additional checking on GCC's compiler output to help find problems like miscompilations. It slows down compile time, however. No effect on runtime (generated code).

One-off

Developers may add time-limited tasks here, like e.g. a new GNOME release which is currently package.masked.
