Hi, I've got an issue with Radeon X1650 while installing a fresh system (funtoo). While evrything seemed ok, I was unable to use XVideo (it was missing from Xorg.log). While troubleshooting got into https://wiki.debian.org/AtiHowTo and some older version of Radeon page where I found I was missing R520_cp.bin firmware file (kernel was trying to load it, I had x11-drivers/radeon-ucode installed). Manually copying this file from older OS made XVideo work again. Replacing x11-drivers/radeon-ucode with sys-kernel/linux-firmware also solved the issue (linux-firmware has the same R520_cp.bin I've copied manually).
After looking at Talk:Radeon page I'm unsure how to properly resolve this (because "Firmware R500" discusion is done)? Edit current discussion? Add new one? File a bug? Something else? I'm new at this wiki :) --Kestas (talk) 16:25, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
- I think this is rather a kernel configuration problem. The R520_CP.bin firmware ships with the kernel in the /usr/src/linux/firmware/radeon directory. My guess is that you have the inclusion of this firmware disabled in your kernel configuration. But you can reopen the discussion if you want.
- Debian does not ship this firmware in their main repository, because it is proprietary. --Chithanh (talk) 16:40, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
