Gentoo ハンドブックの記載は、 これまでGentooで使われていた OpenRC をデフォルトの init サポートシステムとする前提で書かれています。systemd を使用したい場合は、systemd のページを参考にしてください。このページではハンドブックのこれ以降のセクションに対応する説明が書かれているほか、systemd 環境を構築する上で必要不可欠な、initシステムコマンド (systemctl) や systemd 特有のサービス (timedatectl や hostnamectl など) についても説明されています。
