fstab and boot partition

Talk status
This discussion needs help.
Tip: To get this fixed sooner, use {{Proposal}}.

There's discussion here about creating a temporary entry in the /etc/fstab file to point to the boot partition. It'd be helpful to clarify these instructions for PPC installations in which there is no separate boot partition. --Wideaperture (talk) 16:20, 21 May 2019 (UTC)

Yabootconfig usage directions unworkable

Talk status
This discussion needs help as of 2021-04-16.
Tip: To get this fixed sooner, use {{Proposal}}.

The ppc32 handbook recommends exiting the chroot to use yabootconfig, this is unworkable: the yabootconfig tool is not present on the gentoo ppc32 LiveCD, and even if the PATH variable is adjusted so that the yabootconfig script can be found along with the other tools, the script still fails because of a hard-codded path at line 660 in the yabootconfig script.

is linux-firmware actually needed on PPC?

Talk status
This discussion is done.

The linux-firmware package is more than 200MB in size. The install guide says that it is optional. Is it really providing any benefit on PPC platform? Min.xu (talk) 15:20, 8 June 2022 (UTC)

Try asking at the Gentoo forums or in #gentoo (webchat) or #gentoo-ppc (webchat).
