Suppressing autolinking of URL

Talk status
This discussion is done as of April 20th, 2017.

Might want to use <nowiki> in the TTYs section to suppress the autolinking of the URL (and accompanying icon) in the 'links' example. To be specific:

user $links https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Handbook:Parts/Installation/Media

instead of

(edit comment to the see different wikicode). - dcljr (talk) 12:07, 27 January 2017 (UTC)

Good suggestion, applied. Thanks! --SwifT (talk) 16:34, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

Note for the official future media for UEFI mode

Talk status
This discussion is done.

About note on no-UEFI mode for minimal CD, I have known that SystemRescueCD is based on Gentoo and it has UEFI support. UEFI is going to become a new standard, so I think that LiveDVD or SystemRescueCD are more important at the moment. Is it a good idea to clarify this point in the official manual? (just with a note) --Suricata (talk) 14:19, 28 August 2017 (UTC)

The first UEFI specification was published in 2007 and was previously based on EFI. Downloading the LiveDVD takes a long time and it seems that SystemRescueCD has some drawbacks concerning UEFI (sometimes the OS does not boot). I think the best thing is to explain how to boot the computer (or how to use the interface?). I know that this knowledge is special (high level) but I feel that some features are under exploited. --Feng (talk) 10:22, 29 August 2017 (UTC)
The minimal installation CD becomes less useful because it does not allow to start modern computers. Nonetheless, it is probably easier to develop than SystemRescueCD. Anyway, it seems that Gentoo has made his choice: "Readers looking to make their system UEFI bootable must download the latest Hybrid ISO (LiveDVD).". --Feng (talk) 10:22, 29 August 2017 (UTC)
The minimal now supports UEFI booting so this is an obsolete discussion. --Grknight (talk) 14:37, 7 November 2018 (UTC)

Gentoo Ten project

Talk status
This discussion is done as of 2022-02-17.

As far as I know, the Gentoo Ten project doesn't exist anymore. I think we should link to the Release Engineering Project instead. Fturco (talk) 16:43, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

There are no longer references to the Gentoo Ten project. Thank you! --Maffblaster (talk) 00:02, 18 February 2022 (UTC)

This is now the case thanks to Sam James (Sam) 's edit here: Special:Diff/1049166/1049167. Thanks also to Robin Johnson (robbat2) . --Maffblaster (talk) 00:05, 18 February 2022 (UTC)

Typo

This discussion needs a response from its author as of January 11th, 2024.

[1] should read »2. Navigate to the releases/ directory.«.

And "medium contains" or "media contain" in [2] ?

--Vaukai (talk) 08:09, 11 January 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing those out, I've fixed fixed the first one. Are you referring to: Using the base device path, ie. sdd opposed to sdd1, is recommend as the Gentoo boot media contains a full GPT partition scheme. portion? The wording is a bit confusing but I'm trying to communicate that the base device name should be used, because the releng provided images contain a full partition scheme, so it can/should be written directly to the device. --Zen desu (talk) 17:38, 11 January 2024 (UTC)

Hardcoded arch references

This discussion is pending.

At Linux based verification it references an amd64 stage3 while this is not always the case. (change to using handbook variables?)

--Xarvatium (talk) 22:22, 4 April 2024 (UTC)

Can confirm. It's at <!--T:38-->.
