uhhh this is reinventing the wheel, and deprecated garbage in comparison to the radeon wiki page. it lacks video="radeon" and is potentioally hazardous & misleading.

It is a FAQ and moved from the main Gentoo site. I don't have an ATi so I can't say what needs to be updated or not. Please feel free to update the page (for instance link to the right section on the radeon wiki page) where needed. --SwifT (talk) 20:23, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

Im in favor of completely wiping the faq out and replacing it with radeon wiki in featured articles. its missing video="radeon" & insertion of firmware/microcode & embedding firmware in kernel. i only came across my first ati device with gentoo the 11th of dec 2013. its R600 series so i cant test audio over hdmi but the rest of radeon is spot on. i dont have powers over wiki links / deletion of articles / editing locked pages since im not a team member. i just roll all my contributions here as a personal note pad for what im doing next build and can easily keep wiki urls memorized rather than information contained. 2nd issue with this, i dont know how well the wiki 2 docs will go, ie importing wiki page 2 docs to update the docs.666threesixes666 (talk) 22:59, 14 December 2013 (UTC)

Move to AMD Radeon FAQ

  Important note to administrators

We've reached a consensus. AMD Radeon FAQ would be a more suitable name for this article, since ATI is defunct and the contents only apply to Radeon cards.

Talk status

This discussion is ready to be implemented because

• it provides a proposal that can be merged as is,
• that proposal has been unchanged and uncontested for 30 days, and
• all participants have reached a consensus.

This article should be renamed to ATI/AMD FAQ, with ATI FAQ as a redirect. And, of course, it needs a little polishing. IMHO it could continue to inform a bit of the history of ATI and AMD graphics drivers. Luttztfz (talk) 19:32, 29 March 2018 (UTC)

Joshua Goins (Redstrate) hasn't been active since November 2022. We'll have to wait for another admin to rename this article. That probably won't happen soon, since the admins are super busy. — Waldo Lemmer 15:40, 5 April 2024 (UTC)

Thanks. I just wanted to give feedback. I started this discussion in 2018, but I think that ATI should be removed completely. It is no langer a factor, as everything is now only AMD, leaving "ATI" a historic company, and nothing more. Should ATI be still mentioned for radeon drivers? Yes, absolutely, but the articles should be named AMD only, and ATI can be safely removed.

An AMD meta page seems like a great idea to replace this article completely. Since this would make a new page, no admin is needed. Yes? And removing all the contents of this page, replacing it all with a simple redirect, could be done by anyone as well, yes?

The right way to rename a page is to move it, which preserves the edit history, but can only be done by someone with the right privileges. Copying the content to a new page doesn't preserve the history.

If this page isn't moved by 2024-05-07, I'll contact the admins on IRC. If that doesn't work, I'll move the page the dirty way, but the edit will probably attract a lot of attention and get undone.

Is AMD FAQ the right name for the meta page? AMD alone isn't very clear, since AMD not only produces graphics cards, but also CPUs. Like Nvidia, but Nvidia is only in the ARM market, not in the x86 market, and started the other way around. Interesting to me was to find the Intel page, which is ONLY about the graphics driver of that name, while the first thing that comes to mind when reading "Intel" isn't the graphics driver, but the CPU manufacturer.

TL;DR long story short... Is there a guideline on article naming? What is the correct naming scheme for meta pages? "AMD graphics FAQ"?

That is true. AMD uses Radeon for all their graphics cards, unlike Nvidia where the professional graphics cards use a different name: GeForce for mainstream market vs. RTX (without "GeForce"; formally Quadro) for the professional/high-end market. This is lucky for us and works as long as AMD really only ever uses "Radeon"...
