X11 - Bindings
Unfortunately no talk here about the X11-bindings of a Java configuration. Received the message: "No X11 DISPLAY VARIABLE was set ..", failing progam start. sänger 20 Jan 2014
- Not sure what we here on the wiki can do about this. Please open a bug on Bugzilla if you think the package is lacking functionality. Kind regards, --Maffblaster (talk) 09:08, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
out of date
sun-jre-bin is masked, should be oracle-jre-bin or oracle-jdk-bin 666threesixes666 (talk) 02:30, 11 April 2014 (UTC)
Hm. more out of date. the 32-bit method doesn't work anymore :-( I still have a need for 32bit java from any browser, while 64bit is the current default anywhere. Alas this is bound by some router that provides a private VPN method in java with a 32bit DLL... :-( ;-( — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Noci (talk • contribs) 20 May 2016
- This is not the place to write about masks/bugs. Please open a bug on Bugzilla if there's a problem with the package. --Maffblaster (talk) 09:05, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
virtuals in @world?
Why does this article recommend emerging the virtuals virtual/jre and virtual/jdk?
Aren't these automatically pulled in by packages depending on them? IMHO, those virtuals, if ever, should be emerged using the --oneshot (-1)
option.

- Valid point. You should query someone in the Java project and update the article accordingly. --Maffblaster (talk) 09:06, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
- Although I appreciate the point being made, users reading this page are more likely to be interested in just installing Java for their own needs than for a package. There's certainly no harm in doing this, indeed I do it myself on the systems where I build icedtea-bin. Many users wanting Java will blindly install Oracle's JVM, not even realising that there's a free alternative so I'd rather they find IcedTea this way, even if it is by accident. Using the virtual also avoids the IcedTea versioning issue, though this will go away with Java 7 soon enough. --Chewi (talk) 23:33, 24 February 2017 (UTC)
Remove reference to jce USE flag
I believe the jce USE flag is no longer available, and this reference could be removed from the section Java#USE_flags. Mimosinnet (talk)
Remove Section on gcj
As of right now, Java#Installing_IcedTea_GCJ_Virtual_Machine states: "gcj is deprecated and is removed in GCC versions 7.0 and greater. It is unavailable from GCC 6.0 on Gentoo. Consider this section deprecated.". However, sys-devel/gcc-6.5 and 7.0 are both masked, while 6.0 is not even listed.

- Thanks for your thoughts. Sounds like the section can be safely removed. --Maffblaster (talk) 20:37, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
