Removal of compatibility

Talk status
This discussion is done as of 2024-12-18.

Vadorovsky Does the removal of this still allow GRUB to work without it being set? Might be worth adding a note if not. I would have checked myself however I don't have ZFS machine on hand to try it currently.

Not sure. I'm using ZFSBootMenu and don't have any ZFS+GRUB system to test on. Perhaps we should restore the note and mention GRUB instead of ZFSBootMenu, then let someone using GRUB check if that's true. Vadorovsky (talk) 14:43, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
Seems like the logical move, are you OK with make this change please?

Compatibility value

Talk status
This discussion is still ongoing as of 2024-12-30.

This document currently says

The option -o compatibility=openzfs-2.1-linux makes sure that GRUB works.

But "grub2" is a valid value to pass instead. If what we want is grub compatibility, should we specify compatibility=grub2? "diff -u /usr/share/zfs/compatibility.d/{openzfs-2.1-linux,grub2}" shows quite a few differences.
