This discussion is still ongoing as of 2025-02-05.
I quite like the idea of this page, would consider remove the 1st and 2nd writing so we could add this as subarticle to bcachefs and possibly use it as a template for converting other filesystems?
As for for live root migration there is fstransform in GURU but no one was has tested bcachefs support AFAIk if you fancy a little side quest :) https://github.com/cosmos72/fstransform

- Thanks for the encouraging words!
- fstransform looks cool, but I doubt it supports subvolumes.
- In what capacity do you find this interesting? I've come to find it fits the bcachefs model much better to simply mount / and make recursive subvolumes, which also makes it auto-mount all subvolumes. So I'm moving over to this, and would change this guide too.
- I'd be happy to clean this existing technique up though and contribute it to bcachefs if it's of interest - not sure how much "kitchen sink of tips" is wanted there :)
