Radeon

The radeon specific wiki page Radeon identifies firmwares that are needed with newer kernels (3.9+), namely UVDs and SMCs (needed in kernels 3.11+). This page does not reference these same firmwares, and without an appropriate UVD boot may pause for about a minute (which lead me to suspect it had hung when first testing 3.9.11-r1). Maybe this page should reference the radeon page

Certainly - go head; I have no experience (nor a Radeon card) to deal with, but it definitely makes sense to refer to the Radeon page - especially if this can lighten up the Xorg/Configuration one. --SwifT (talk) 16:54, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

XDM

Why is the changing of /etc/conf.d/xdm from xdm to whichever window manager you are using not mentioned?

Was doing a quick install and totally skipped this part for some reason, went back over what i had done, everything was perfect, then remembered i hadn't touched xdm or its conf file, switched to; DISPLAYMANAGER="kdm", added it to the default runlevel (for future) then ran /etc/init.d/xdm start and i had a perfectly working X system and KDE login. I find this a rather large thing to miss out. Xorg doesnn't mention it, KDE guide doesn't mention it, Gnome guide prob doesn't either.Killerc (talk) 00:24, 12 June 2014 (UTC)

The display manager (KDM, GDM, ...) and Xorg are two different things. It is possible to use Xorg even without a display manager. Setting your own display manager in /etc/init.d/xdm should not be described in this article. The right place (for KDM) is this. Fturco (talk) 08:00, 12 June 2014 (UTC)
